Each victim deserves to have their own sentence.

Here’s another situation. Let’s say someone murdered three people. He will be charged, tried, and sentenced for each murder. Three murders equal three sentences. Now, some sentences are concurrent, meaning he will serve all three at the same time. If a person got 3 concurrent 10-year sentences, he/she will be out in 10 years… or perhaps a bit shorter if good-time applies. If a person got 3 consecutive 10-year sentences, that person will serve 10 years on the first sentence, then start 10 more for the second sentence and so on. Sometimes murderers only get 25 years. Depending on the age of the accused a person could get out of prison and go back into society. In the case of multiple victims, to make sure that doesn’t happen, oftentimes the judge will order a sentence to be consecutive. So three victims equal 75 years in that case.
